Cricket Coach Claims County Honour
By Isle of Wight Radio Reporter Thu, 30 August 2012 7:03AM

A cricket coach from the Isle of Wight has been rewarded for his outstanding services to grassroots cricket.

Kevin Winchcombe, a coach for Newport cricket club, has been recognised as part of Sky Sports ECB Coach Education Programme.

Former England International, Nick Knight, presented Mr Winchcombe with a special coaching certificate during the NatWest Series One Day International against South Africa at the Ageas Bowl.

Commenting on being recognised, Mr Winchcombe said: "As a direct result of this programme there is now more coaches at my club and therefore an increased number of children are receiving good quality coaching.

"Since I began coaching, many youngsters have now progressed into our club's first team, which is brilliant," he added.

Mr Winchcombe currently coaches the club's U17 team and continues to assist with the club's youth development programme.

After a coaching career spanning nearly 20 years, Winchcombe was voted to receive the reward by his county's fellow cricket coaches in recognition of his investment in the game.
