The scene at Northwood, where traffic is being diverted

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious collision on the Isle of Wight.
At around 8.30pm on Friday, August 24, a collision between a Ford Puma and a Subaru Jesty occurred on the A3020 Cowes Road in Newport.
The three occupants of the Subaru, a 44-year-old man, a 41-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl all from the local area, all sustained life threatening injuries.
The girl has been taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment and the man and woman are currently being treated at St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight.
The driver of the Ford Puma, a 30-year–old man from Sandown, was arrested at the scene. He also suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at St Mary’s Hospital.
The road between Newport and Cowes was closed for several hours while officers from the Roads Policing Unit carried out a detailed investigation of the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw either of the vehicles prior to the incident, is asked to contact 101 quoting Operation Oakwood, or the Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
The road remained closed on Saturday morning and diversions were in place.
*It re-opened shortly after 8:30am.
