Gannaway Returns to Raiders

By Chris Browning Mon, 20 August 2012 1:19PM

The Wightlink Raiders are 'delighted' by the news that Steve Gannaway is back for the new season.

The veteran defenceman has played more games for the Raiders than anyone in the club’s history and has been a member of the squad in every season bar one for 18 years.

Steve will start the season on the bench as Assistant Coach to Jeremy Cornish and will take to the ice when fit

Jeremy is pleased to have Steve back on the roster. 'Steve has battled some injuries over the last couple of seasons and this year he will start from behind the bench as our assistant coach.

'He has been my unofficial assistant since I took over as coach 4 seasons ago and a lot of our recent success has been down to him and his knowledge about the league and the players.

'He will train with us and if he feels he is ready to compete in game action again, he will be welcomed back. I know Steve is very passionate about the club and I think retaining his services was an absolute must.'

The Raiders squad for the new season is now complete with youngsters Aidan Doughty and Luke Tull also set to play with the senior team when available.

The regular season gets underway on the 2nd September with a trip to Solent and Gosport before they welcome Invicta Dynamos to Ryde Arena on Saturday 8th.
