'Minor' bus routes axed

'Minor' bus routes axed
By Emma Philo Tue, 14 August 2012 10:55AM

A handful of bus routes - described by Southern Vectis as 'minor' - are set to be axed from September.

Eight Moss Motor tour journeys will no longer operate.

They are as follows:
07:04 Bembridge to Newport

07:22 Totland to Newport

09:30 Sandown to Alum Bay via Newport

10:30 Ryde to Alum Bay via Newport

14:00 Alum Bay to Ryde via Newport

16:30 Alum Bay to Bembridge via Newport

17:10 Newport to Bembridge

17:10 Newport to Totland

The Downs Breezer and Shanklin Steamer tourist routes will also finish for the season in September.

In a statement, a spokesman for Southern Vectis said: "After discussions and agreement with council transport officials, a very small selection of  individual bus journeys will be withdrawn due to the low number of passengers and rising operating costs."

The spokesman added: "No jobs will be lost as there are so few bus journeys affected and some of the services are already covered by other routes."

Full information is available from the Southern Vectis website or from the 01983 827000.
