Cowes RNLI lifeboat went to the aid of an elderly man who was knocked unconscious aboard his yacht in the River Medina late last night.
The man was with his wife on the 24 foot Sea Witch, moored alongside an offshore pontoon near East Cowes Marina.
His wife informed Solent Coastguards that her husband had fallen down steps from the cockpit to the cabin.
The lifeboat arrived on the scene at 14 minutes past midnight.
Lifeboat crewman Peter Cunningham went into the cabin to administer First Aid to the man, assisted by Chris Cockroft.
Although by then the man had recovered consciousness, he was administered oxygen and had his head wound dressed.
Eventually he was transferred to the lifeboat and taken to a Trinity Landing on Cowes Parade where an ambulance took him on to St Mary's Hospital, Newport.
It is believed the yacht had sailed to the River Medina from Chichester.
