Island Family Return to Ruin

Island Family Return to Ruin The Green's home in Sandown (left), the inside of which has been badly damaged by fire
By Chris Browning Sat, 04 August 2012 10:36AM

A family from Sandown returned home from holiday to find their house partly destroyed by fire.

The Green's semi-detached property in Central Way, Sandown, was caught in a blaze in the adjoining property, which destroyed the home another family's home.

Bryony Green, her husband Nathan and their three children heard the bad news while on holiday, when a family member phoned them.

'We were half prepared', Bryony told Isle of Wight Radio.

'The roof of my eldest bedroom was quite badly damaged - the ceiling is missing. Upstairs the roof is charred black.'

The Green's three young children, Katie, 10, Madeleine, 7 and Eleanor, 2, have been left without their toys during the summer holidays.

Bryony says 'they've had nightmares about it and are worrying about whether they're going to be able to get back into their home.

'We have to try and stay positive. If we're down the children come down with us.

'It is really hard on them', she says.
