The unofficial race for life took place yesterday and judging by comments from people who were there it was a resounding success.
The day was helped out by island inshore rescue who had this to say
Ryde Inshore Rescue were very proud to be the organisers of the Unofficial Race for Life that took place at Appley on Sunday 29th July. Around 150 ladies, all donning something pink arrived en mass at 10am to sign up and complete the 5km course finishing outside of the Appley Cafe.
Ryde Inshore Rescue only inherited the event 10 days earlier after it was cancelled by the official organisers and it was 10 days of lots of hard work and paperwork to ensure that the event was all legal and safe ready for the day.
Event Organiser Michaela White said “It was so lovely to be able to do this for all the ladies that were running; many of them had very personal reasons for being there and there was a lot of emotion on the day. To see them all complete the course, with smiles and tears made all the hard work worth it.”
