Police warn over bike thefts.

Police warn over bike thefts.
By Charles Ballard Mon, 30 July 2012 3:30PM

A bike was stolen at the weekend outside of a spar in Gunville, just after 9pm on Saturday. The bike was left unattended for a short while, only for the owner to come back and find that it had gone.

Police are urging that people lock up their bikes even if it is for a short period of time. With the school holidays now in full swing, more people will be out on their bikes according to the police.

Police Constable Steve Quelch from Newport police station said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to remind people never to leave their bicycles unlocked and unattended even for a short time. By following some simple advice, you can avoid becoming a victim.”

The stolen bike, is a white Onza Rip trails bike, looks like a BMX but without a seat post or saddle. It has black handlebars and forks and 20 inch wheels.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Quelch or PC Olivia Peachey at Newport police station by phoning 101. Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
