Melting Roads to be Repaired

Drivers are being urged to take care as the Island's melted roads are repaired.

High temperatures have caused the road surface to become soft.

The sections of road are the main Cowes-Newport Road, Brading Downs Road, Quarr Hill, Blackwater Shute and Downend Road.

Isle of Wight Council says roads will remain open while repair work is carried out, with traffic controlled by stop-go boards.

In a statement, officials said, 'the work involves treating affected roads with a dusting of smaller chippings.

'This has been in agreement with the contractor who surfaced these sections of highway earlier this year and has again confirmed they will meet the cost of this, together with final remedial treatment.'

Matt Sparling So last time we had a ~(brief) hot spell they blamed the melting roads on them " not having had long enough to settle and bed in at a normal temperature" to paraphrase.
Well, we have had 6 weeks of crap cool weather so whats their excuse going to be this time? And why the total abscence of warning signs on the approach to the works? Its absolutely leathal for those on 2 wheels.

But then are not most of the IOW roads.

Carl Djcrazylegs Wright All great closing the Blackwater Road between Shide and Arreton but would have been nice if there was actually diversion signs set out!! I can't understand why they have not fixed the roads after the problems last time considering they knew this heat was on the way again!! Now it is causing chaos all over the island and will continue to do so all the time we shall get this heat so no doubt roads will be closed AGAIN tomorrow and more likely the rest of this week and maybe next week until the problem has been sorted!!

Gary Rimmer If the isle of wight council done a proper job in the beginning there wouldnt be soo many problems all the time. They need to hire some decent road workers that know how to repair a road properly!!

Richard Wakeman you have to laugh as I've just been stuck behind a flat bed with the poor bloke in the back throwing grit out the back with his hands...welcome to road repairs IOW style! - ps where do I send my bill for getting my car valeted as its full of chippings and dust now?

The Saxon Party It is a pity the council chose the cheapest rather then the best it seems. I hope we still have the receipt and hopefully the company that won the contract will be able to send a remedial team out as soon as possible. What if everyone who has been inconvenienced were to follow Daniel Kiunsi and sue the Isle of Wight council for "making us unhappy"

Tracy Asterling the whole island needs sorting,the roads and the poor lineage esp were the give ways are! ok if you know the roads but i feel sorry for the holiday makers are the roads could be confusing to them and im suprised theres not more accidents! island roads are more like dirt tracks,you cant call them roads as when u drive on the island you feel like you are on one!
