The Island's emergency services are at the scene of a serious road traffic collisionon Watery Lane outside Newport.

According to NHS Isle of Wight a 12 year old boy is in a stable condition in St Mary's Hospital.

He suffered serious head and neck injuries and has been taken to St Mary's hospital.

The incident happened shortly before 16:30 (Wednesday), near to the crossroads along Watery Lane.

A spokesperson from NHS Isle of Wight has confirmed the air ambulance was called to the scene but was unable to land because of the weather.

The boy was taken to hospital by road ambulance.
