An estimated 50,000 people across the Isle of Wight turned out today (Saturday) to witness a moment in history.

The Olympic torch spent the afternoon travelling to Yarmouth, Totland, Gunville, Carisbrooke, Newport and East Cowes.

According to Isle of Wight Council, 8000 people were in Totland, 2000 at the Needles, 8,000 at Yarmouth, 10,000 in Newport and between 8000 and 10,000 in East Cowes.
