Blue Peter Cancels Island Programme

Producers of the BBC's children's programme Blue Peter have cancelled filming a show at Osborne House because of the weather.

The programme was due to be filmed on Saturday to coincide with the arrival of the Olympic torch.

In a statement issued to Isle of Wight Radio, the BBC said it had fallen foul of the bad weather.

The statement is as follows: "Sadly, due to the recent extreme rainfall in the Isle of Wight, the site for this weekend’s (Saturday July 14th) Blue Peter’s Big Olympic Tour is waterlogged and therefore unfit for use. Unfortunately there are no other suitable venues on the Isle of Wight so we are currently searching for an alternative venue on the South coast. We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused. All tickets for the Isle of Wight event will still be valid and we will post regular updates on the new venue on bbc.co.uk/bluepeter."

- Elaine Westhead This sounds like a very poor excuse! I cannot believe there is NOWHERE on the island. Have the BBC actually bothered looking. I'm not at all involved but feel so sorry for all the children who would have been going. So disappointing for them all.

- Domi Cragg think they should provide us/those with allocated WON tickets with free travel to get off island for it - (its Blue Peter/BBC ~ they can afford it! :o) ) nothing like this ever comes to the island - how many disappointed children & parents are there going to be? understand the H & S aspect of it ~ but come on BBC, look further & LET US KNOW! :o/ grrr, rant over!

- Warren Thomas I find it hard to believe that there is nowhere on the island that can't host this event. I'm sure with a little out of the box thinking this could have been sorted very easily (just goes to show that on Blue Peter they rely on "the one they made earlier" far to much)lol

- Michell Kirkham We had tickets too, very sad kids when I tell them later :( Blue Peter worked with the Council to find an alternate venue....so no wonder its been moved to the main land! Are there any venues out there on facebook that could save the day?....
