Wowfest Organisers Surrender Licence

By Isle of Wight Radio Reporter Fri, 06 July 2012 5:28PM

The organisers of the defunct festival, WOWfest, have surrendered their licence for the event.

The three day festival was due to take place near Shanklin on the Isle of Wight in August but was scrapped after police raised concerns about safety.

The organisers had been asked to pay £140,000 upfront to cover policing, fire service and council costs as part of the Isle of Wight Act but they failed to meet the deadline.

The Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Cllr David Pugh, has confirmed to Isle of Wight Radio that the premises licence for the event has been withdrawn and a hearing which was due to take place later this month has been cancelled.
