2000 Island Homes Without Power

By Lucy Morgan Thu, 12 April 2012 5:07PM

Around 500 homes in the Ryde area remain without power tonight after a number of lightning strikes in the area.

Isle of Wight Radio has been told by utility firm Southern Electric that those remaining homes may not have their power restored until midnight, due to significant damage.

Earlier, power was restored to 1500 homes.

We should have another update for you shortly.

Earlier we reported:

Around 2000 Isle of Wight homes are without power this afternoon due to the lightning strikes.

The blackout is mainly affecting the Ryde area and also Bembridge Smallbrooke and Ashey.

Some families have been without power since around 2.30pm this afternoon (Thursday).

Engineers are working to fix a number of faults according to Southern Electric and it's hoped power will be restored by tonight.
